Search Indiana Recent Bookings
Indiana recent bookings are public jail records created when someone is arrested and processed into a county jail. Indiana law requires sheriff offices to share booking information including the name of the person, charges, the date and time of booking, and bail amounts. This page helps you search Indiana recent bookings across all 92 counties using county sheriff portals, the Indiana County Jail Public Portal, the Department of Correction offender locator, and the statewide MyCase court system to find the records you need.
Indiana Recent Bookings Quick Facts
What Are Indiana Recent Bookings
A recent booking record is created each time someone is arrested and taken to a county jail in Indiana. The record captures the basics: the name of the person, the arrest charges, the date and time of booking, and the bail or bond amount set by the court. Under IC 5-14-3-5, Indiana law requires law enforcement agencies to make this information available to the public. Jail bookings are not the same as convictions. A person booked into an Indiana county jail has only been charged, not found guilty. The record shows what happened at the time of arrest, not the final outcome of any case.
Each of Indiana's 92 counties runs its own jail. The sheriff handles bookings and holds inmates before trial. County booking data is often the freshest source for recent arrest records in Indiana.
The information in a recent booking record varies a bit by county, but most Indiana jails publish at least the person's name, date of birth, booking date and time, charges, and bond amount. Some jails post mugshots as well. A few counties publish daily arrest logs covering all bookings from the prior day. Others update their roster in real time as new bookings come in. The Indiana County Jail Public Portal brings together booking data from multiple counties in one place. You can search by last name, first name, birth date, or county. Participating counties include Brown, Carroll, Elkhart, Fountain, Grant, Hendricks, and others. This portal is a good starting point if you are not sure which county jail has the person you are looking for. Not all 92 counties participate, so you may also need to check the sheriff's website for specific counties directly.
The Indiana County Jail Public Portal at public.indianajail.gov is free to use and does not require registration to search recent bookings.
The Indiana County Jail Public Portal accepts searches by last name, first name, birth date, and county, making it useful when you don't know which specific jail holds a person.
Indiana Department of Correction Inmate Search
The Indiana Department of Correction, or IDOC, handles state-level incarceration and is separate from county jails. Most recent bookings happen at the county level first. People who are convicted and sentenced to longer terms may be transferred to an IDOC facility later. The IDOC operates 18 adult facilities across Indiana, ranging from minimum to maximum security. Their main site at in.gov/idoc lists all facilities and provides access to key search tools. The IDOC states: "Need to locate an incarcerated individual? Use the offender locator tool to find their facility assignment and DOC number."
The IDOC manages 18 adult facilities statewide, from minimum to maximum security, plus juvenile facilities. It also runs the SAVIN victim notification service and the Sex and Violent Offender Registry.
You can find incarcerated individuals through the IDOC Offender Locator at offenderlocator.idoc.in.gov. Searches work by last name only, or both first and last names to narrow results. Results show the name, DOC number, and current facility assignment. The locator is limited to people currently held in a state facility and won't show county jail inmates or those already released. For county-level recent bookings, use the individual county sheriff portals covered on this site.
The IDOC Offender Locator accepts partial name searches. Using both first and last name is recommended to get narrower results and avoid a long list of matches.
The IDOC also runs Indiana's Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification service, known as SAVIN. Victims and others can sign up at vinelink.com to receive alerts when an inmate's custody status changes. This free service covers most Indiana county jails and all state facilities.
Indiana State Police Criminal History Records
The Indiana State Police offers a Limited Criminal History service through its Criminal History Services division. A Limited Criminal History report covers felony and misdemeanor arrests within Indiana. It does not include records from other states. The ISP uses a person's name, date of birth, race, and gender to run the search. You can request one online at in.gov/isp/criminal-history-services or by mail to P.O. Box 6188, Indianapolis, IN 46206-6188. The fee is $15.70 per search. Money orders are the only payment accepted for mail requests. The ISP notes that the completeness of results depends on county participation, so some records may not appear.
The ISP criminal history service is a formal lookup tool, not a live jail roster. For up-to-date recent bookings, use the county sheriff portals or the INjail portal covered elsewhere on this page.
Indiana MyCase Court Records and Recent Bookings
Indiana courts use a statewide platform called Odyssey for case management. The public-facing search tool is called MyCase, available at public.courts.in.gov/mycase. MyCase gives you access to court filings, case status, charges, and hearing dates for public cases across most Indiana courts. The system states: "Information on this site is made available as a public service pursuant to order of the Indiana Supreme Court." You can search by case number, citation number, cross-reference number, or party name. Name searches accept last name and business name. You can add a first or middle name and date of birth to narrow results. Wild card searches work with an asterisk, and a sounds-like feature helps when you are unsure of the exact spelling of a name.
MyCase covers most public Indiana court cases and links arrest charges to court filings, making it a useful companion to county jail roster searches when you want to see the full case history.
MyCase does not cover all courts in Indiana, and the depth of records varies by county. Protection order cases are excluded under federal law. Juvenile paternity cases filed before July 1, 2014 are confidential. No search returns more than 1,000 results at once. If a document is not online, the MyCase help page at in.gov/courts/help/mycase explains how to contact the county clerk directly for copies of case materials.
The MyCase FAQ page clarifies that "all public cases, cases that are not confidential, not sealed, and not expunged, can be searched on MyCase." This makes it a strong tool for tracing the court history tied to a recent arrest in Indiana.
Court records in MyCase are public under Indiana's Access to Public Records Act, IC 5-14-3. This law gives anyone the right to inspect and copy public records during regular business hours. Agencies must respond within 24 hours for in-person or phone requests, or within 7 days for mail. The Indiana Public Access Counselor handles disputes over denied records requests at in.gov/pac, reachable at (317) 234-0906 or (800) 228-6013 toll-free.
Marion County and Indianapolis Recent Bookings
Indianapolis and Marion County together form one of Indiana's largest booking systems. The Marion County Sheriff's Office runs the jail and booking process. You can search current inmates at inmateinfo.indy.gov/IML. The tool lets you search by first and last name in the text boxes, or by booking number, permanent number, state or county ID, or FBI or ICE number. Hours of service run 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Marion County Sheriff's Office is at 40 S. Alabama St., Indianapolis, IN 46204, reachable at 317-327-1574. The jail roster is also available at marioncountycourt.org/jail-roster.
Marion County uses two search options: entering a first and last name in the text boxes, or entering a booking number, permanent number, state or county ID, or FBI or ICE number to locate a specific person.
Indiana Public Records Law and Booking Access
Indiana's Access to Public Records Act (IC 5-14-3) gives every person the right to inspect and copy public agency records. Booking records fall under this law. You do not need to give a reason for requesting booking information. You do not have to be a party to any case. The law requires agencies to respond to records requests within 24 hours for requests made in person or by phone, or within 7 days for mail and fax requests. If a request is denied, you can file a complaint with the Indiana Public Access Counselor at (317) 234-0906.
Not all booking records stay public permanently. Indiana law allows people to seal or expunge certain arrest and conviction records under IC 35-38-9. An expungement removes the record from public view. Arrests that did not lead to a conviction may qualify more quickly. Once a record is expunged, it will not appear in public jail rosters or MyCase searches. Eligibility depends on the offense type and how much time has passed since the arrest.
The Indiana Public Access Counselor at in.gov/pac handles appeals when public records requests are denied. The office reviews the denial and issues written opinions, and can be reached at (317) 234-0906 or 400 W. Washington Street, Suite W470, Indianapolis, IN 46204.
Indiana Sex and Violent Offender Registry
Indiana maintains a statewide Sex and Violent Offender Registry that is separate from county jail recent bookings but related to public safety records. Under IC 11-8-8, known as Zachary's Law, sheriff departments jointly maintain the registry. The law became effective January 1, 2003. It required the creation of a public registry for sex and violent offenders who live, work, or study in Indiana. The IDOC took over management of the registry on July 1, 2006. You can search it by county at in.gov/idoc. The registry covers identity, location, and appearance of registered offenders statewide.
Indiana Sheriff Booking Systems by County
Each of Indiana's 92 county sheriffs runs its own booking and inmate management system. Many use third-party platforms that publish rosters online. JailTracker is one of the most common platforms in Indiana, powering inmate search tools for Boone, Crawford, Dubois, Howard, La Porte, Pulaski, and other counties. The Zuercher Portal is used in Jefferson County. Adams County uses the ISOMS Portal. Wayne County uses SheriffConnect at sheriffconnect.com. Some counties post daily arrest logs while others maintain live rosters updated each time a new booking comes in.
The Indiana Sheriffs' Association at in.gov/sheriffs provides a directory of all 92 county sheriff offices. This is useful when you are trying to find the right contact for a county you are not familiar with.
Not every county has an online inmate roster. Some smaller counties require a phone call to check on a booking. In those cases, contact the county jail directly or fall back to the state-level INjail portal at public.indianajail.gov. Tippecanoe County publishes daily arrest reports at lafayettesheriff.com/daily-arrest-report. Vanderburgh County maintains a dedicated recent bookings page at vanderburghsheriff.org. Knox County posts an online roster with mugshots. Each county page on this site covers the specific search tools and contact details for that location.
